NFL Morning

It’s here. Did anyone else out there get a warm, tingly feeling this morning when they opened up their newspaper (or logged on to the Internet) and saw football was on tonight? The only thing I can equate it to is Christmas morning as a kid and the reason I’m feeling it most likely because the Dolphins will take the field a few days early this year. Finally a reason to watch the stupid Thursday kick-off programming.

My prediction will be a close game. Mare might be the star of the night that no one is talking about. I’m also wavering between live-blogging as I watch or watching in a non-blogging room that has the HDTV flat screen…maybe a bit of both. So tune back in tonight, especially at halftime.

Weekend Recap: HOF, 1st Game, Welker Debate

I can’t believe we’re back to real football on TV. It was a year ago that I was in Canton to see Dan Marino inducted along with Steve Young and two posthumous inductees. That totaled four. This year there were six inductees and the only one not with us was the beloved Reggie White. The fans of Troy Aikman, John Madden, and the rest of the class didn’t fill every seat the way Dan’s fans did last year. On TV it looked half empty and I bet in person it was even worse. That’s pretty sad, but maybe last year was a rare occurrence.

The speeches were fine with Madden’s going way too long and Al Davis scaring children. Moon was a bit of a surprise though.

Local Cameras Banned From NFL Games

The Society of Professional Journalists is pissed off at the NFL. At the recent owners meetings in Orlando, team owners voted 32-0 to ban local camera crews from the field. So on your local nightly news don’t expect any field level shots, or Nick Saban walking to the locker room comments that weren’t shown on the major networks. "The NFL proposal is not in the public interest," said David Carlson, SPJ's national president. "It is bad for the public, bad for the news media and bad for the NFL. It is patently unfair to local television stations and their audiences."
