13th District of Illinois Vs. Wasilla, Alaska

Wasillamap Since Gov. Palin is about to "slam" Barack Obama over experience or something stupid in a few minutes, I'd like to point out some number that NO ONE in the mainstream media has brought up to all the idiotic pundits saying Palin is more qualified than Obama. He was State Senator for eight years. That means he represented a district in the State Senate of Illinois. That district, the 13th, is made up of people. How many people? That's hard to judge. But 45,486 people in that district voted for Obama in 1998.

Let me say that again, 45,486.

Those are just some of the people Obama represented. It might be a good sound bite to make fun of his community service but maybe the Republicans or the media could look to another mark on his resume.

I think the country and the media know less about the city of Chicago and how big it is than they do about the town of Wasilla, Alaska where Palin served as mayor for six years. That town's population, 5,469.

Matt Cameron Fired Up For Barrack Obama

Finally, someone in Pearl Jam is doing something to support a mainstream presidential candidate. I never thought I’d see the day. Drummer Matt Cameron lays down the beat for a pretty jazzy song based around Obama’s “Fired Up, Ready to Go” chant, complete with gospel choir. Enjoy the video above and the making of video below and if you want you can download the MP3 here.

Kung Fu Election: Obama Takes Up The Samurai Sword

Kungfuelection

I came across this horrible time waster tonight and it does a good job of taking a lighter stab at the political process. With only a few days until Super Tuesday pick up the sword and get swinging. The special moves are pretty clever, Romney turns into a Terminator bot, and overall it’s amazing what you can do with web games these days.

Rey Colon Wins Easily: Aren’t You Glad We Had A Runoff?

Wls_041007_35thward I didn’t understand why we even have runoffs when the original win was by such a large margin, but I guess its good to beat the opponent into the ground as much as possible since you can only do it every four years. I’m not really “excited” that Colon won with 62% of the vote, but he’s probably still the better candidate.

Colom can deny those attack ads that were sent out in the mail all she wants, but everyone I talked to couldn’t believe they were real and thought they were a huge negative against her, not Colon.

How many people voted? 6,537. Almost the exact same number that voted last time!

Go Vote: Colon vs. Colom IX

The time for smear campaign literature is over. It's time to go vote, this time for real it seems. We're a bit shocked at the lack of signs and hype other than the mailers we've been receiving from both campaigns. Either way, go vote. The system doesn't work otherwise.

35th Ward: It's A Runoff! Colon vs. Colom 2007

It's hard to tell since the major newspapers didn't update their election results. But because Tuesday's results were so close (only  6,500 people voted in our ward) the two have to take part in a runoff on April 17. Yep, another six weeks of Colon and Colom signs. We wonder if Sotomayor will back either of them since he still received impressive numbers. This will be the third straight time the two have faced off. It's kind of like boxing. Colon/Colom III.

Obama Rally: UIC Pavilion

Obama3 Courtney and I aren't the most political of folks. Sure, we watch "Meet the Press," vote every two years, and keep up on world and local events, but we've never attended a political rally before. I think I've given very small donations to Presidential nominees before, including John Edwards four years ago. But we both admit there is truly something different when it comes to Barack Obama.

The national media keeps saying he's on a press holiday as he hasn't made a flub yet in interviews or on the trail (two days old of course) but as Chicago residents we've watched Obama a lot longer and I don't' think there has been a flub. He even roots for the White Sox unapologetically yet Cubs fans don't mind because at least he makes a stand. That's not easy to do.

35th Ward Alderman Debate

Debate1 Last night Courtney and I walked the block to the Fourth Congressional Church to hear the four candidates for Alderman speak their minds and try and convince us to vote for them Feb. 27. The church was filled with community members. It was kind of nice to know our new neighborhood has so many interested residents. The debate was surprisingly good for local government with only Esteban Burgoa "taking up time" with his passionate but off base rants.

Disclaimer: We came to the meeting with very little background of the candidates beyond seeing the signs everywhere this year and in 2003.  I'll break down my impressions below.

Barack in 2008!!!

Check out the video above. Guess Obama's cool video player isn't embeddable that easily! Check your code guys. Now it's working. Anyway...The first step has been taken, will he make it to Iowa? He gets my vote even without my anti-Hillary stance.

Election Day: No More Commercials

06election First, everyone should go vote today. Second, thank goodness these political ads are over. If I was running for office I'd make one ad and say "I'm going to donate the rest of the millions of dollars I've raised that would be used for commercials to worthy causes."

That way, if I lost someone else would still win. Every week I'd make a new donation, get new media buzz and be done with it. But it seems like we'll get completely idiotic ads forever saying the exact opposite of the next guy. Sigh....

Anyway, I'm glad that's all over. We're heading out to the polls before work.
